I drifted across Roaringwater Bay in near calm conditions. By the time I got to Heir Island the wind had increased to no more than a force 2 southerly. It was a long beat against the tide through the narrows between Cunnamore and Heir, Sherkin and Turk Head and finally Sherkin and Spanish Island, the still smouldering scene of the previous day’s gorse fire.
