The old-world extravagance of the royal French Palace at Versailles is already enough of a visual attraction. But coupled with astonishing contemporary works from Lisbon based artist Joana Vasconcelos, the palace becomes half history lesson, half art gallery and all around impressive. Giant high heels made of pots and pans sit in the palace’s famous ‘hall of mirrors’, while a full size Bell 47 helicopter covered in feathers crystals (as something Marie Antoinette would have flew) lays next to centuries old paintings in a juxtaposition of elegance and excitement that could only come from the mixture of old and new.
