Guinness has now officially confirmed The Macallan M Imperiale – one of just four of its kind created – is the most expensive whisky sold at auction,breaking the previous record of US$460,000 held by The Macallan in Lalique Cire Perdue.
Bought by an unidentified buyer, The Macallan M Imperiale is also bottled in Lalique crystal, and was designed to commemorate the launch of The Macallan M in Hong Kong.

The bottle, as VentureBeat reports, contains a sensor that can detect when your phone is nearby and send cocktail suggestions, advertisements, coupons, and reminders to stock up on more whisky, all straight from the bottle. It is made by a company named Thinfilm Electronics, which has partnered with the maker of Johnnie Walker Scotch Whisky to bring this technology to the masses.
