Thousands of Irish adoptees don’t know their original names, who their parents are or even if there is a serious illness that runs in their family. Not knowing is a source of great pain and anxiety.

Senator Aevril Power talking about a new bill that will allow adopted people access to their birth certs. I’m adopted, and when I tracked down my family I discovered that my ‘name’ was Roland and I’m probably going to die of colon cancer. Also, I’m distantly related to Jedward. So the cancer isn’t the worst news I got.
