    The countdown to Christmas has officially begun in Cork as thousands of Christmas Lights were lit on Patrick Street, Cork City recently. Cork City Council has invested heavily in new  lights for the city this year, so Cork is set to ‘Glow’ brighter than ever before this Christmas season. The turning on of the Christmas Lights officially marks the first day of Christmas in Cork and saw thousands of visitors flock into Cork City to get seasonal celebrations under way with the official switch-on of the Christmas lights on Patrick Street. www.glowcork.ie

    though the area gets little in the way of rain, what does fall fills the salt flat with a few centimetres of water, which leaves a mirror before quickly evaporating. reflected in these pictures is not only the milky way, but venus, mercury and jupiter as well.
