What we want to know is whether or not there has been any breach of the ministerial code.

Incredibly, someone from Fianna Fáil said that.

Michael McGrath, finance spokesperson for Fianna Fáil, was discussing the settlement against Fine Gael’s John Perry, when he said: “[We’d like to know if] clarification was sought by Minister Perry of his boss [Richard Bruton] of whether or not he should have been dealing with banking issues, and dealing with the heads of AIB and Bank of Ireland at a time when he was also seeking to involve those banks in the resolution of his personal financial difficulties.”

Wry chuckles all round.
