Linda Holland. West Cork badass.
WHEN she left these West Cork shores, back in February 2009, little did Linda Holland know that, four years on, her Thursday nights would consist of flipping 230kg tractor tyres, shuttle runs and tackle bags.
But seeing as she ventured Down Under in search of something different, an adventure, a story to one day tell the grandkids, it’s now mission accomplished.
A defensive back for the Western Australia Angels LFL (Legends Football League) team – the newest franchise in the Australian LFL, which kicks off this December – the sports-mad 28-year-old Glengarriff woman is loving life in Perth right now, and who can blame her.
But she misses home, right?
Now spoilt by the Australian sun and its trappings, not even the lure of a traditional Irish winter could tempt beach-loving Linda home.
‘That is something I most definitely do not miss,’ she laughs, ‘and I was never a winter person to begin with.
‘I absolutely love it here in Perth. I honestly could not see myself anywhere else right now.
‘I did initially come for the short term but I do see myself here for the long term now. The quality of life and that activeness that is everywhere around you here is so contagious.
