NO REPRO FEE. 13/5/2014. FG Cork South Central TD Jerry Buttimer has FG TD Mary Mitchell O Connor perform CPR on him watched by TD Denis Naughten, Senator Fergal Quinn ,TD Caoimhghin O Caolain, Senator Colm Burke, Senator Jillian Van Turnhout and TD Roisin Shorthall. They are pictured at a special Irish Heart Foundation resuscitation training event today as students from Adamstown Community College in Co Dublin, demonstrated to senior politicians in no more than 10 minutes, the hard and fast chest compressions required, at least two inches deep in the centre of the chest, to manually pump a heart to keep blood and oxygen flowing around the body. The technique known as hands-only CPR is used to save a life from sudden cardiac arrest, which currently claims 5, 000 lives here annually. Later this week the Irish Heart Foundations 25th Happy Hearts Appeal will take place 15-17 May, kindly supported by SuperValu , which aims to raise a target of 500,000 to deliver a new national hands-only CPR awareness and education campaign starting in autumn, to grow Ireland`s cardiac arrest survival rates. The public is urged to buy a heart for 2,euro. http://www.happyhearts.ie.Photo: Leon Farrell/Photocall Ireland.
